A few months ago, a company that designs and manufactures innovative technologies for the wine industry contacted us through a web search.

The head of the technical department visit our website and was impressed by the various customizations we are able to make, so he asked us to make a metal enclosure for a laboratory instrument that analyzes the tartaric stability of wines.

“This product already existed at the prototype level,” says Alessandro Vignaga, Administrator and Sales Manager of MCS, “but with a much simpler, smaller shape and with several issues to be solved from the construction, ergonomic and aesthetic points of view. In fact, the company was looking for a supplier who could support it in both technical-functional aspects and design, which had to communicate a sense of innovation and technology.”

“We promptly drafted a response that, however, was not liked. It is not always possible to get in tune with the customer on the first attempt, interpreting their needs perfectly.”

Good the second design

Further discussion was necessary. The customer came to meet us and showed us as an example a product-from another, non-competing industry-that was in line with his aesthetic expectations.

He clarified which direction he intended to go in, highlighting further technical and operational demands.»

“So, we took on the challenge of designing a structure a little different from the usual ones. We proposed to the client the creation of an additional sketch to evaluate whether the product remained feasible on our part and at what cost, since a target price had been set for the production of a batch of 50 pieces.

Of course, this pre-analysis activity required a certain investment on the part of the customer: it could prove to be both a sterile activity due to possible impossibility of getting to the point of producing the product with the desired characteristics, and a preliminary activity for subsequent project definition. It was also used to make initial economic estimates and get a rough idea of the costs, since we had no previous experience on similar work.”

“With the second sketch, we hit the mark by fully responding to the needs and realizing, after a short time, a first sampling.”

Features of the presented solution

The main structure of this customized metal enclosures was made of light metal carpentry, but details were also added that ennoble the product compared to typical metal carpentry objects.

The enclosure is made up of 2 parts in 2mm thick iron sheet, with continuous welding for a perfect union of the various elements.

Front is finished with a conductive matt textured finish.  Also, in the front has been added decorative elements in plastic material obtained from slab, coated and silk-screened.

Back is also made of metal with a matt black and fine texture finish.
Inside there are support elements for the display and the various electronic components.

An appreciated design

“Upon receipt of the samples, we immediately received good feedback from the customer, who after some minimal adjustment requests immediately started the agreed production of 50 pieces. Not only that.

In addition to his appreciation for the willingness and professionalism shown, he informed us that his customers also noticed an improvement in the design: the new aesthetics were also liked by the end users.”
